Instead of sitting around and waiting, he and his best friend from the neighborhood went down and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a 17 year old knowing his number was going to be called for the draft. And family doesn’t always have to be blood. If you can do it, always be willing to help those that need it. He always used to say to me before an audition: Go break a leg…hell, break ‘em both! His way of saying give it everything I’ve got an then a little extra! He also taught me that even if you don’t have a lot of money, you can still have dignity and self respect. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Always give it 100%, and in the end even if you don’t win, you know you gave it your best and you’ll practice and get better for next time. He always said you can make more money, but you can’t buy more time. Your time is the most precious thing you’ve got to offer. Always follow through when you give your word. The values and lessons I learned from him I am now teaching my two young children. My Dad had the biggest impact on me for sure. Who had the biggest impact on the person you have become? It’s having my faith in humanity restored over and over again that gives me hope our future…my kid’s future…is going to be OK. Or the guy who went viral when video of him scaling a high rise apartment building in France saved a child dangling from the balcony before other help could arrive. Or when you hear of that anonymous person who bought a million dollars worth of toys from the closing Toys R Us chain so they could donate them to charity. Like when a young boy stops what he’s doing to help an elderly lady across a busy intersection. Sometimes it’s hard to feel positive about what’s happening in the world these days, but then you see stories that restore your faith in humanity.
